Gator Kendo Club - New Member Information

Who can join?

Anybody can join (as long as you are an active student)! No experience is necessary! Pretty much every member of our club first tried kendo here at UF, so we all remember what it was like on our first day. Come check us out!

What do I need to bring?

Just bring yourself in workout clothes that don't restrict your movement. The club has shinai (bamboo practice swords) for beginners to use. Remember to fill out a waiver before you come to practice! (You need to fill out a waiver for each sport club you want to participate in.)

Practice Times - Fall 2011

All practices are in the Student Rec and Fitness Center (SRFC) Activity Room #3.

How to fill out the waiver

Below are the instructions for how to fill out the waiver given to us by Mr. Eric Ascher.

What is kendo?

Kendo (meaning "way of the sword") is the martial art of Japanese fencing/sword-fighting. Kendo is a sport martial art as opposed to a practical self-defense martial art (when was the last time you felt that you needed to defend yourself from a sword attack?). There is much more to kendo than could be explained here, so come to practice to see what it is all about! (Alternatively, feel free to email us any questions you may have.)

What activities do we do?

In addition to regular practices, community service activities, fundraisers, and social activities, the major activies that are planned for the year are: If you join near the beginning of the year, you should be able to participate in every activity we do (including competing at tournaments in team and individual matches)!
